Compiz Fusion for Ubuntu 8.04 & 9.04
Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron)
Step 1. To install compiz fusion on Ubuntu the first thing you need to do is activate your graphics driver. To do this go to System > Administration > Hardware Drivers. Type in your password when asked
Step 2. Choose the recommended driver from the list and click the activate button. The driver will now be downloaded and installed. After the installation is complete reboot your computer.
Step 3. Once your computer has restarted your ready to install compiz fusion.
Open the Synaptic Package Manager. To do this go to System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager.
Step 4. You can use the search function to find the packages that we need, which are:
1.compizconfig-settings-manager
2.emerald
Click on the checkboxes to the left of the two packages and select mark for installation. You may also want to check the box for the unsupported plugins, since this will give you more desktop effects. The packages may have some dependencies, accept these by clicking on the Mark button. Then click the Apply button. A new window will open where you will have to click on apply again to confirm your selections. The packages will now be downloaded and installed. Once the installation is complete you can close Synaptic Package Manager.
For installation on Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) follow steps 1-3, once you get to step 4, use the search function to install the simple-ccsm (simple Compizconfig settings manager).
That's it Compiz Fusion is now installed and ready to use.
