Hi guys, I recently ordered an HP HDx16t laptop with an:
-Intel® Core2 Duo Processor P8800 (2.66 GHz, 3 MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
-1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M
-4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
But as of today HP came out with the new HP pavillion laptops, the dv6t,dv7t, and dv8t quad edition series. The one I'm looking at returning my ordered laptop for is the dv8t quad edition laptop that comes with a
-Intel® Core i7-720QM Processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB)
-1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 230M
-4GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
Now keep in mind I want a laptop to be able to run games like Crysis and GTA IV pretty well. Which one of these computers will last me a very long time as far as performance for gaming goes? I really don't want to have to consider upgrading in the next year, i want my laptop purchase to last me awhile.

I'm having a very hard time deciding on which cpu to get...?

I would buy the Intel® Core™ i7-720QM Processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB)
The reason is that the Core i7 is Quad core, has 3MB more in L2 Cache, and the FSB (which is no longer has) operates way faster! Make sure that your operating system is 64-bit, as that will also take advantage of the processor and RAM. Also, the Core i7 is Intel's latest product line, so if you want to have the most up-to-date processor, the core i7 is the way to go
If you have anymore questions, please let us know, we would be glad to help

As matt stated, this processor works great with Windows 7. As long as it is 64-bit, your system will run very smooth

I also forgot to mention my concern about the clock speeds on both of the CPU's. I noticed the Core 2 duo processor has a 2.6ghz clock speed compared to the I7 processor speed clocking in at 1.6ghz. Will this difference in clock speed effect the performance of the I7 processor at all? I know the I7 has four cores but with a clock speed of 1.6ghz will it run slower than the core 2 duo processor?

This is very deceiving. If you have a program that allows multiple threads, the core i7 will wipe the performance of the other processor two-fold. The extra 3MB of L2 cache will make a huge difference, along with the Core i7 not having the FSB. Even though it looks a lot slower, it is still a very fast processor due to the "fsb" and cache.

So basically i can expect the core I7 processor to play current games and upcoming games in the future with ease, unlike the core 2 duo?

The I7 is by far the faster one the other came out of the CPU plant last year not this year like the I7 it's the new bread of Intel CPU

I can't say that 100% since games are becoming more and more demanding, but I would definitely go with the Core i7 in my opinion. I am sure you will be satisfied
