Ubuntu 9.10 for Desktop, Server, Live CD, Netbooks. i386 (32-bit) and x86_64 versions available.

Canonical has announced the release of Ubuntu 9.10, the latest version of the project's flagship operating system for desktops, laptops and servers: "Ubuntu 9.10 brings changes small and large that all have a common purpose - to make Ubuntu the most user-friendly operating system available. Ubuntu 9.10 features a redesigned, faster boot and login experience, a revamped audio framework, and improved 3G broadband connectivity, all of which contribute to a first-class user experience. Furthermore, the innovative '100 Paper Cuts' initiative organised with the Ubuntu Community allowed users to nominate minor annoyances that impacted their enjoyment of the platform. So far over 50 fixes have been committed, removing minor irritants such as inconsistent naming or poorly organised application choices." 9.10 Full Description

No i am not running it now, I booted it up from Live CD and it looks pretty nice. I may install it in the future, right now I have to keep Fedora..

It looks very close to their previous version looking at the screenshots above.

Yeah the look is still the same, but they have enhanced the interface and menus. And even from just running it off Live CD the time it took to load up and shut down was quite a bit faster than with previous versions.

A lot quicker - very interesting Cloud stuff going on too with server version. Driver support seems better on my test machine as well.

Just thought that, in the atmosphere of fairness that should reign, I'd post a link to an article which dropped in my inbox today:

See here - not my experience though

Although having a play myself, still use Mint as my favourite distro - just something about it I prefer.

I haven't had this experience yet, although I haven't installed Ubuntu 9.10 on any PC yet. As far as Mint is concerned this was the first Distro that I ever used. Although I have reverted to using Fedora for the time being, Mint is absolutely a great OS.
