Thought I'd share this, a couple of months old now but really strikes a chord with me. Edinburgh (pop 435,000) is the capital city of Scotland, a country with a population of less than half that of a big City (5 million approx) - yet the spending farce goes on and on. Since the setting up of the Scottish Parliament (a glorified council really) the atrocious spiralling of expenses has seemed endless - take for example the Parliament building; estimated cost £40-50 mill, final total £414 million! Latest goodie - the Edinburgh Tram project; replacing a number of buses (not all), route nothing like planned, completion date set back constantly and to top it all - half the city blocked off and dug up (I pity the retailers - bet they don't get reduced business rates).
Anyway, enough ranting - enjoy this re-subtitled clip from 'Downfall', with Bruno Ganz venting his anger at our local politicians ineptitude.
It's on YouTube - view it HERE
Tust me, a scene played out all over this fine city!

Has there always been trams in Edinburgh? we have them in Melbourne noting but a pain in the neck I hate driving on the road with them sounds like a waist of money to me all they do is hold up traffic and stop it flowing

There were, taken away and now coming back - waste of time and money. Excuses cite 'green' and so on - would have been better buying local bus co. a fleet of electric buses and installing a few charging stations, but no-one there has half a brain. Supposed to help congestion too but as you say, more of a hindrance. Me, I'm harking back to my youth and buying an old Vespa (or maybe Lambretta) scooter - what traffic!

Yes buses are a much better option all ways around! No trams in Sydney just buses and trains works well
