There's been a lot of comments online recently regarding the discovery of Windows 7 'God Mode'. A lot of excitement over what is, to all extents and purposes, a glorified link to Control Panel. I've been trawling the web to find (and try) details on this, and include my findings so far.
It is useful if you want to have one stop access to many of the system settings in one place.

The procedure is very simple: create a new folder where you want to access this plethora of delights, rename the folder to the following (not including the quotes) "GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}", press enter and the Control Panel icon will appear, with the label 'GodMode'. Double-click on this and lo and behold - access to most of the tasks you will ever need.

Find below a list of various other folder rename tricks - just rename the folder as before (don't forget the'.'), use whatever name you want, and enjoy

Please note that not all shortcuts work with every model of OS - and I have been told that some work with Vista!

To be honest, think it's a bit of both. There are some similar renaming tricks in xp, in fact I must try some of them out on 7.
Usually shortcuts left in the OS for developers - found this quote 'In an e-mail interview, Steven Sinofsky, Windows division president, said several similar undocumented features provide direct access to all kinds of settings, from choosing a location to managing power settings to identifying biometric sensors.' - Whatever that means, probably the only documented comment by anyone at Redmond on the matter.

Handy Though

I see this more of a security risk than a feature. Does this bypass permissions as well? O.o

GodMode. That's funny. Worthless to me though because I never use most of that.
