Hello everyone.
Recently, my computer started slowing down and crashing randomly; and it's was really sudden. I've run scans with Avast! and haven't found anything on my computer, however, around when the first crash occured I recieved a notification from Prevx 3.0 that there was a "possible" virus. I asked my friend about it, and he said that Prevx was just trying to get me to upgrade; since I can't do remove without paying.


Regardless, I checked my Computer Management System Logs and stumbled across various Service Control Manager errors.
I recieved #7000.

"The My Web Search Service service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the path specified.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp."

I was hoping someone might be able to help me out? These crashes are very, very bothersome. ):

You definitely have something nasty installed.

Please follow this guide and see if the problem persists. If it does, there are still plenty of other things we can try

First, Download Malwarebytes Free Edition from here > http://download.cnet...4-10804572.html
During the installation of Malwarebytes just accept all the defaults, such as installation location, if you want desktop icons of not, you can clean all of this up later on. The most important thing is, you get this program installed, updated, and running. At the end of the installation make sure that update Malwarebytes and run Malwarebytes check boxes are checked and click finish.


Malwarebytes will now update its virus definitions and to the latest version if needed, then the program will run. Make sure your on the scanner tab and Preform a Quick Scan is selected, then click the scan button.


The scan should only take a couple of minutes, so be patient. Once the scan is finished you will get a window that looks like this. Click on the "show results" button.


On the scan results windows make sure that there are green check marks in the boxes beside all of the infections, and click the "remove selected" button.


Once Malwarebytes removes the infections you will get a scan log with information in it similar to this:

Note: Not every infection will be removed until you restart your PC. Once your PC is booted back up, run a full scan with Malwarebytes instead of a quick scan. This will ensure that there are no left over infections on your PC.

Good advice, just one thing to add - some of these trojan-style programs are set to prevent install of anti-malware software. If this occurs then first off try renaming the exe from mbam.exe to something else pre-install, other than that let us know and we will try to help - there may be something nasty lurking in the start-up programs.

Thank you for the help you guys, however, whilst I was trying to figure out what to do (Before your replies) my friend instructed me to do the same thing (haha!). Though it didn't work, and I still experience random crashes / freezes, and the Event Viewer still says the same thing! I did however manage to delete a lot of nasty little things with MalwareBytes (:.

When you have the program installed, run the program and click on Do system scan and save a logfile on the programs main menu.

Once the program is done running, it will save a logfile with some information. Copy and paste that file into here so we can analyze it.

Out of those, I personally prefer Avast for a few reasons. The first reason is that it isn't as much of a resource hog as other antivirus programs. Another reason is the web protection. While viewing sites, you get the alert box telling you if you have the virus or not, rather than letting the virus install and then finding out you have the virus. Lastly, Avast has a free version that works extremely well. Can't go wrong with that
