datadrive, could you please take a picture of the purple motherboard? We need to see if you have a sata port so we can hookup the drive. Do you have a sata cable as well as sata power cable/adapter?
Sata power cable:

Does your motherboard have any sata ports like in the picture below (not all sata ports are orange)

Hello great to see you back here
if you look at the image below there is 2 screws holding a small board in place you need to remove them and then remove the small board exposing the standard SATA connectors.

on the mainboard . Or alternately you could get one of these VANTEC CB-ISATAU2 SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter and plug it in to your USB
this lead below goes between the mainboard and you external drive

this is one lead showing both end it's a SATA lead
This is the power lead it plugs in to the external drive off you PC power supply

once all plugged in we should be able to access the drive

looks like your mainboard don't have the required SATA port. if you get stuck get this VANTEC CB-ISATAU2 SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter it plugs into the drive and then into your USB no inside hooking up

are you sure that would work? i don't want to spend 25 dollars and have it not work.
again sorry for the long responses. i've been very busy. this external drive is thorn in my side

Hello your back
! it will work well with that drive you plug the drive into the cable and then hook it up via your USB port or on any PC's USB port and it will pop up under my computer as a drive so you can get your stuff.

alright. took me a little while finding all the all holes, but this story does have a happy ending. first of all i have all family pictures on this laptop. 2nd, i have 60 gigs of other stuff, music/movies, etc, i'm putting on another computer just in case theres something i need. slowly clearing out the hard drive on 2-3 other laptops/computers just for safety.
also, if anyone googled this and is attempting to do this, one thing that would help is to not plug the usb in your computer until you turn everything on.
first connect everything that needs to be connected before, have the power button on off. then turn everything on. wait 5-10 seconds, connect the usb to your computer and it should pop up. you don't even need to install the cd they sent if you are running past windows 98.
also, *beep* iomega and other places for not doing this for you. its a simple process and the fact that they would charge me 100s of dollars for this is messed up. glad i got on this forum and these guys were able to guide me to a solution, even if it took me months... lol...

Woot! great to hear you got your family photo's back!
we are lucky we did not have to do a data recovery process on the drive this means the power supply in the Iomega case was screwed

I am very sorry for we couldn't get this fixed faster, however I am very glad to hear everything is moving smoothly now. Also, thank you for posting the information you have found on troubleshooting, that info will definitely come in handy in the future
Since you have narrowed it down to the powersuppy on the enclosure, you can buy a replacement one if you would like. If you would like some help finding one to work with the drive type and size, let us know and we would be glad to help and hopefully can get you an answer much quicker lol

thanks guys!
iomega warranty should still cover me. they gave me that 30 day extension to go along with my 1 year. i just have to put it back together and mail it to them, they'll send me a new one after they get it.
i wish my 16 gig flash drive had more memory, i don't see any problems with portable flash drives! no power supply!

wonder if you get a full warranty on there replacement drive? If not I'd test it for bad blocks and sectors when you receive it
