Today I was on my computer and at some point i pressed CTRL + ALT + Down, and suddenly the screen resolution started looking weird. I restarted my laptop and things seemed to look normal, but then I got an error message when I tried to see my display settings. It read:

"The currently selected graphics display driver can not be used. It was written for a previous version fo Windows, and is no longer compatible with this version of Windows.
The system has been started using the default VGA driver.
Please contact your hardware manufacturer to get an updated driver, or select one of the Microsoft provided drivers."

I have Windows Vista, and I'm using an HP Pavilion dv2010us.

I went on Device Manager and tried to update the driver software but it seems to be the latest version or something.

Please help me, how do I fix this?

Neither of them would work.

I installed that, everything seemed to go well, it asked me to restart and so I did. After I tried to open up my display settings again and the same error message showed.

If you do this and un-tick them all

# Click Start, and then click Run.
# Type msconfig, and then click OK.
The System Configuration Utility dialog box is displayed.
go to start up tab un tick all off them then click apply and ok then restart do you still have the error?

Edit: Sorry, read the wrong question. I will try what you suggested.
