I'm just copying and pasting from my yahoo answers.

SO. My laptop has been a little ***** lately, and I so I did a system restore thingy majig to try to fix it if it was because of something I installed (my Windows Live Onecare hasn't been working). Then today, more like 10 minutes ago, I restarted my laptop and then what do you know? The stupid blue screen of death appears. I restarted and it didn't go away. I restarted again and went to the advanced options menu to try safe mode. It wouldn't start. I don't know what else to do. Please help? D,:

What should I do? Restore factory settings? If so, how do I do that?

This is the error the blue screen gave me: 0x0000007E (0x80000003, 0x8053355E, oxBA4CB1CO, 0xBA4CAEBC)

OH! And my laptop is a Dell Inspiron 6000.

Hello Ashley welcome to PCHHQ :) give this a shot to reinstall to factory

Step 1

Remove all external peripheral devices, including USB-connected devices.
#
Step 2

Turn on the computer. If the computer is already on, reboot it.
#
Step 3

Press the "F8" key when the computer starts. If you see the Windows logo then you were not successful in entering the "Advanced Boot Menu." You will have to try again. If you are successful then you will see the "Advanced Boot Menu."
#
Step 4

Select the "Repair Your Computer" option and press the "Enter" key.
#
Step 5

Select the language you would prefer and click the "Next" button.
#
Step 6

Log in and press "OK." You do have to have administrative access to perform this action. Only administrators are able to restore the computer to factory settings.
#
Step 7

Click "Dell Factory Image Restore." The "Dell Factory Image Restore" window will appear. Click "Next."
#
Step 8

Click the check box that states, "Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system to factory condition." Click the "Next" button.
#
Step 9

Click "Finish," when the restore has finished.

Is there any other way to fix this problem before having to restore the factory settings?

@noop: I have my original Windows xp program disk with the reinstall disk?

@madmatt: The laptop turns on, and opens to the advanced options. I try to start it in safe mode, but it won't. It goes to the blue screen. It does the same with the last known good configurations settings (is that it? haha) as well.

How to perform a repair installation of Windows XP
Performing a repair installation of Windows XP can fix many serious startup problems. While you should not lose any of your important documents, you might lose settings, and you will need to reinstall many updates.

Before performing a repair installation of Windows XP, you should have both your Windows XP CD and your product key available.

To perform a repair installation of Windows XP

1. Insert your Windows XP CD into your computer.

2. Restart your computer. If prompted, press a key to start from the CD-ROM.

3. When the Welcome to Setup page appears, press ENTER on your keyboard.

4. On the Windows XP Licensing Agreement page, read the licensing agreement. Press the PAGE DOWN key to scroll to the bottom of the agreement. Then, press F8.

Posted Image

5. When prompted, press R to have Windows XP attempt to repair Windows by reinstalling important Windows components.

The repair and reinstallation process might take more than an hour. Eventually, Setup prompts you to answer questions just as if you were installing Windows XP for the first time. For detailed instructions, read Install Windows XP.

SOOOOO Mr. Noop.
Haha.
AS I was installing my Windows XP again, there were these errors that kept on popping up, something with copying the files and they couldn't find them on the disk?
There was an option to continue the installation without them (there were multiple files that couldn't copy), so I did.
Then when I turned on my laptop (no BSOD, thank you :D), but now when I try to log in, it says:
"This copy of Windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can log on. Do you want to activate Windows now?"
In which I said Yes.
BUt then it brings me to my desktop, where none of my desktop icons are present, nor the start bar, or anything. Just my background.
I tried like, letting it load or something, but nothing.

What now? (:

Make sure your date and time is correct (double click on the time in the bottom right to adjust it). You would be amazed at how much stuff depends on the clock lol Once that is setup, make sure Windows is activated.

How to activate Windows XP by using the Internet
To activate Windows XP by using an Internet connection, follow these steps:
  • Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Activate Windows.

Or, click the Windows Activation icon in the notification area.
  • Click Yes, let's activate Windows over the Internet now.
  • Click Read the Windows Product Activation Privacy Statement, click Back, and then click Next.
  • Use one of the following methods:
    • If you want to register and activate Windows at the same time, click Yes, I want to register and activate Windows at the same time, click Read the Windows Registration Privacy Statement, click Back, click Next, type your contact information in the appropriate boxes in the registration form, and then click Next. An asterisk (*) appears next to required information.
    • If you only want to activate Windows, click No, I don't want to register now; let's just activate Windows, and then click Next.
The wizard establishes a connection with an activation server, and then processes the activation request.
  • When activation is completed and you receive the following message, click OK: You have successfully activated your copy of Windows.
Copied from Microsoft's support database. Click here to view the full article as well as see other ways to activate Windows XP.

Hope this helps,

Try pressing the Windows Key and R to get the run box to come up. Then type in: C:\WINDOWS\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a

This should start the Windows Activation Wizard.

Does Windows Key + R even popup the run dialog box?

Try this command if the one above didn't: %systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a

If that doesn't work, try booting into safemode with command prompt. Once you get to command prompt, type explorer. See if the computer works in this mode.

Nah, it doesn't even pop up the run dialog box. It does nothing. All I see on the screen is my mouse pointer and background.

Umm, okay. I'll try the safe mode thing.
