loss of dns on main computer

I have been trying to set up a workgroup between two lap tops and one PC. One of the laptops has XP the other Vista the PC XP. I have been adding the above to a network group without much success however somehow I have managed to muck up my PC in so far as it is now not the main one linked to the ISP provider. ISP provider has been of no help. I appear to have lost the DNS somehow and Microsoft Windows Update, System Restore and Internet Explorer are not working. Can someone please help me to sort this out? Do you think I should contact a puter expert and have them do this through remote PC?

Hello freda welcome to PCHHQ
do below and post back the text
1. Click on Start button and then click on Run (alternatively just hit Windows + R keys) to open Run command dialog. Type Cmd into the Run box, and hit Enter. In Windows Vista, open an elevated command prompt by clicking the start icon, type cmd, right click on cmd and run as administrator.
2. A command prompt DOS window will open. Type ipconfig /flushdns and then press Enter.
check if your internet works again
