My problem is simple. I have an HP Pavilion PC and I need to format it. I don't have the disks so I click start and search "recovery" and the first thing that pops-up is "Recovery Dick Creation". So I click that, it tells me about creating disks and I hit "next" and it says "The Recovery partition could not be found. Exit PC Recovery and contact HP support." I can't find any answers. The only recovery CDs I have are from the old Compaq. So please help. :c

Welcome to the PCHHQ khoraski!

What operating system do you currently have installed? Have you formatted the machine before? What model is it?

Thanks,

Can you get into the Operating System right now? Are you able to get to any of the recovery options from inside Windows Vista from the Start Menu?

If you don't have the restore disks, a copy of the OS installation disk, and the recovery partition is damaged, you may have to call HP and have them send you the CDs.

Have you tried booting into safemode to see if you can get into windows? If you can get into windows you can save yourself a few pennies and make the CDs yourself :)

I will try safemode.

Will the CDs work if I get them from a better version of my PC but the same model and everything?

If it is the same model/hardware, I think it would work.

Here is a step by step guide on how to create them:
http://www.wikihow.c...ecovery-Manager

You may need to change the serial number once you restore the OS to whatever the serial number is on your case.

Alternately, you could try downloading the Windows Vista recovery disk by Microsoft. Download the ISO and burn it with your favorite burning program (imgburn, Nero, etc.)

You will need to use a torrent program such as uTorrent or Azures to get a copy of the disk.
Windows Vista 32-Bit (x86) Recovery Disc Torrent
Windows Vista 64-Bit (x64) Recovery Disc Torrent

Here is some more information about how to use the disk.

It says that the disks are not supported when I try to use them, I can't make them for my computer because something is wrong with it, and I don't have the money to afford any from Microsoft. So, I have this crappy computer that I can't format.

Well you can request the HP recovery disks from HP. The recovery disks look to be about $20. You can get some more information on how to order them here: http://h10025.www1.h...00810334&dlc=en

It doesn't look like HP is giving away the disks for your model to the public. However, according to the HP site, you should be able to make the recovery disks on your other pc and use it on this one if both machines are identical.

Here is the article again on how to make them: http://h10025.www1.h...cname=c00882383

What type of disks did you use the first time? Make sure they aren't RW (Use DVD+R discs if your disc drive supports it. Some versions of Recovery CD-DVD Creator do not work with certain discs (for example, CD-R CD-RW, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW). Mini-discs are not compatible with Recovery CD-DVD Creator.). Also make sure that you put in the right cd first. If you put the cd's in, in the incorrect order it will NOT work.

Let me know how it goes,
