About a week ago, I was using my HP notebook as I usually do. I finished what I was doing and turned it off normally. The next day I was in school and turned on my notebook and got the "No bootable device-- insetr boot disk and press any key" screen. My computer didn't come with any boot disk.. just a paper that says that that i can restore my system without disks through the hard drive or my own set of recovery disks.

So, i went into the start up menu and into the system diagnostics and ran all the test and they passed.. EXCEPT for the hard disk test. It actually never starts. It's just a blank screen and nothing happens. Obviously i'm assuming my hard disk is the problem.. but what can i do, how did this happen? does that mean all my information in my computer is lost?

also, way over my warranty. not an option.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks so much!

-Jen

Hello Jenny,

Sorry for the slow reply. This definitely looks like a hard drive issue. At this point, it doesn't look like you will be able to recover any information off the drive as it isn't even being detected by the machine. You can purchase a new hard drive for laptops, install it, and then reinstall the operation system if you have a copy of Windows or want to use Linux.

Sorry for the bad news,
