LOL!! That is the funniest thing that I have ever heard someone say about AVG Free. AVG is "garbage ware." This is what kind of protection that you get from AVG Free > AVG Free contains basic antivirus protection (base level only). > AVG Free does not contain Anti-Rootkit protection so rootkits may be hidden in your system. > AVG Free does not contain Anti-Spam which can monitor and block SPAM and fraudulent e-mails. > AVG Free does not contain the new Safe Downloads & Instant Messaging protection (Web Shield technology) so it does not screen your downloads and communication for viruses and spyware. > AVG Free only includes the Safe Search protection which provides you with advice on search results. It does not protect against infected pages. Only AVG paid versions contain the Safe Surf technology. > AVG free needs 256mb of RAM to run While Avast comes in at 28mb, 55mb when scanning. So AVG Free isn't such a smart choice after all. So if we want to protect are "electronic lives" we need to install a combination of security applications on your computer. There is no one program that can offer you complete protection. Here is how I have all Windows PCs setup. AV = Avast Home Edition, Spyware = Superantispyware Free, Malware = Malwarebytes, Firewall = Online Armor. I only have Avast, Superantispyware, and Online Armor running at startup. Malwarebytes is just used once a week for a scan. And I can honestly say that I have not had a virus on any computer for a long time.

lol I know all this it was only a suggestion for a free anti virus great to get some feed back. What do you suggest for a free anti virus Avast or Avira? I have heard a lot of people like Avast

Lol that is awesome Pirate! I would agree, I prefer Avast far more than AVG (AVG is much more resource intensive too). Thank you for writing that comment, that made my day lol

I would recommend Avast to anyone. Avira is also very good, the only thing I don't like about Avira is, connecting to the update server can be brutal sometimes. But the best Anti-Virus is Linux!! Because you don't need any

lol to be honest can anyone ever agree on which one is the best I'm sure some one will tell you your both wrong as well it's been debated for many many years

Well in this case if you compare those 3 (Avira, AVG, and Avast) in rankings and reviews, this is how it breaks down. Avira comes in at number one with Avast is a close second, while AVG Free comes in last And your right best is just a matter of opinion, but in this case AVG Free is far from the best.

the only one thing never said it was the best one the text posted about AVG is from there site it was just a suggestion but the information in this post is going to be great for other users thank you very much for your suggestions Avast or Avira. I'm sure other users with have suggestions. Man now I feel a bit crispy cause I got "Toasted"

Your right you never said that it was the best, and wasn't implying that you were Didn't mean to call you out on that one, but I have a soft spot when it comes anyone talking good about AVG.

yes I have used Norton and its absolutely terrible. If you have a fast computer and want to slow it down, install Norton on there Also McAfee pretty much fits in the same category as Norton does.

Have to agree about AVG, although it is good to get the list of options out there. I install Avira on machines I doinate, and let the recipients make their own purchase if they choose. At home I use the AV from my ISP, which is based on Kaspersky but run ESET Smart Security 4 on my laptop. As stated, Norton is a critical blow to the speed of any machine; I remember a call-out a while ago with a PC that had been sold by a shop with Vista installed (Celeron 2.93Ghz and 1 gig of ddr ram) that was also running norton - let us just say that shop got a visit! I also find Clamwin portable a ahndy tool for on-site scans.

Well at least we all can agree on one thing, Norton is Terrible. @ Uncle Fester, I bet that computer was so slow you could turn the computer on, make a pot of coffee, take a shower, and everything might be loaded up and running by then. At one point my wife had Vista or here computer with only a Gig of RAM and running Avast, and I could restart my computer twice, before hers shutdown. However she has the best PC in the house now after upgrades (hey wait a minute.... i didn't get any upgrades )

Let's hope that the advent of Win 7 sees the demise of Vista and other resource hungry leviathans out there - cheaper and faster hardware should mean a better experience, not a playground for show-offs. Does seem to have humbled Redmond a bit though, if you read between the lines even they admit Vista has flaws.

So we're all agreed Norton is a no-no, let's hope any visitors take this in; unless you're running a Cray stick with something else!
