Ultimate Edition 2.3 "Gamers" edition, an Ubuntu-based distribution for gamers has been released. Ultimate Edition 2.3 'Gamers' has the following games pre-installed: 3D chess, Airstrike, Aisleriot Solitaire, Barrage, Blackjack, Boswars, Brutal Chess, BzFlag, Chess, Dream Chess, Five or more, Foo Billiard, Four-in-a-row, Freecell, Gbrainy, Glest, Gnometris, Gridwars, Hearts, Lango, Kslotski.... Play on Linux is included in this distro, which allows playing of Windows games in a nearly seamless manner. Many additional Linux games available though Ultamatix tool are also included in the distro. It uses the Ultimate Edition 2.4 theme pack, but is Jaunty-based (Ubuntu 9.04).

I do have to say that this is one of the best GNU/Linux Distro's released. I just installed this on my "testing computer" and it may become my primary OS. So far I have installed the following Windows Games without any issues. Madden 08, MLB 2K9, GTA 3, MTX Mototrax Motocross, and 18 Wheels of Steel American Long Haul. So when they say you can play Windows games in a nearly seamless manner, they are not lying!! :D

They actually play very good so far, I haven't dug real deep yet, but I plan on doing a lot of testing in the next few days. I will post back if I have any issues with anything. The only one that I have installed that might not perform well is MLB 2K9. Its a very heavy game to begin with and it takes up 10gb of HDD space. But all the others are good so far. The real big test is going to be when I install Wolfenstein. If this game plays on the OS, anything will play.

That looks great, downloading it now, will hopefully install it in a.m. If as good as you say will be interesting for me as I installed ubuntu 9.04 a couple of days ago and have been playing a bit. In fact my mother's been on my case to sort her out some games (as that's all she uses her PC for) so next time I take the kids to see her may install for her!

Had a little play, very impressive. Will try out a game or 2 over the weekend, have passed it to a mate of mine who is the manager of the local PC spares/repair etc shop too, he's a real gamer and was interested. Thanks for the post.

Your Welcome, I am going to be testing a lot this weekend myself, to really see what it can do. Haven't run into any issues as of yet, but I am sure there will be a glitch or two somewhere.
