This morning as I was adjusting my laptop, I had the power adapter (the part that connects directly to the computer) in the same hand i was moving my PC. As i moved it the adapter touched my usb port and I heard a pop; a few seconds later some smoke. I didn't know what to do, so i proceeded to turn on the computer and even more smoke came out of it. Once my pc loaded I got this message:
0701: USB over current on hc/port-bus: 00h dev:14h 5un 0eh/ port:00h..
I'm assuming it burned out, but I haven't tried connecting anything to it.. what should i do, should i not use the computer until it gets fixed?
thanks in advance!

Welcome back Jenny!
Unfortunately it sounds like you have burned out that specific port. The good news is it looks like it only burned out that port rather than the whole motherboard. So.... here are your options
If your computer is under warranty, I would call dell, hp, asus, whomever the manufacture is and have them repair it for free if it is covered. If it isn't covered by warranty, you can go ahead and still use your laptop but do NOT use that USB port. The last option would be to get the motherboard replaced by Geek Squad or some other pc repair place that will replace the motherboard in your laptop. This will usually be quite expensive so you may actually be better off purchasing a brand new computer if you choose to go down this route.
